About the Artist

BJ Broekhuizen (b. 1979, South Africa) studied menswear fashion design (BTech Fashion) at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town. For 8 years he worked as Head Visual Merchandiser of Menswear at Harvey Nichols in London. In 2009, however, he decided to dedicate himself entirely to art.

Today he is a professional artist whose works have entered numerous private collections worldwide – in the USA, South Africa, Australia, and across Europe.

BJ’s hallmark is his bold and expressive use of colour, strongly influenced by his African roots. He mainly works in oil, spray paint on canvas, and Indian ink on paper. His preferred subjects are mysterious and intriguing portraits infused with abstraction. Broekhuizen’s art is often provocative and conveys emotions related to identity, beauty, and culture.

He currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
